Ahoy!

Went for a swim workout this morning and saw something truly impressive. Generally speaking truly huge people are often somewhat uncoordinated. They just seem to have a difficult time with proprioception. Those that aren't uncoordinated are typically snatched up quickly by football or basketball coaches. Well, this morning I saw an NFL-sized guy who swam like me. Didn't have quite the speed but the technique and comfort in the water was all there. It was really cool to see.

Christmas Day

Ever deal with someone that makes you want to say "FML" even when you're not a FML kind of person? Yeah, welcome to my day.

Christmas

Ah yes...according to various news outlets we (that would be Minneapolis and the central plains in general) are about to get a snow beatdown. Awesome! Growing up I always considered myself a warm-weather person and I must confess that I probably do still prefer the sun and warm weather to anything else. But I've found that I really like having 4 "real" seasons.

I'm looking forward to a serious snowstorm and getting back out on the snowboard in real (not manufactured) snow.

Back to training...

Anyone that has known me for more than about 3 minutes would tell you that PT is a huge and important part of my life. I've been a competitive athlete since I was 6 years old...that's almost 33 years. Most of that time was spent particpating in sports that demanded multiple training sessions per day (swimming and water polo). Given that over time I became completely accustomed to that schedule I've continued it.

I train now on a 12 week "on" and 1 week "off" cycle. It works for me: gives me some time off occasionally for vacation/relaxation, slots nicely into the year (basically it means I have a cycle for each season). This past week was my "off" week between cycles, and this morning was the first of two "test" days where I determine what I'll be working on in the coming cycle and some baselines for performance evaluation.

Can I just tell you how nice it was to get back in the pool and the weight room? The start of the "off" week is always nice...I get to sleep in a bit, get to eat what I'd like (within reason), etc. But by the end of it I'm dying to get back to work. I guess that's a good sign.

Gotta get started...

Wow, maybe it's time I actually begin working on this.
